Beyond the admittedly tacky souvenir shops, there are some establishments well worth a visit.
Less traditional, and certainly eclectic, is the 12 Gualti, Rio Terà Canal, near Campo Santa Margherita, (39-041) 520-1731, www gualti.it, which sells modern space-age brooches shaped like star bursts, manufac tured in colored resin that appears brittle but is pliable and soft. The perfect silk-satin shoe, with two heel options, can be customized in 85 colors ($295), and accessorized with an explosion of magical jewelry.
